Laravel hosting: start with your project's needs.

From a simple PHP site to a continuous queue processing application, Laravel projects require different resources. Select the publishing method and service needs together.

VDS resource price Laravel does not imply maintenance or distribution service. Appropriate PHP hosting can also be considered for simple projects; public directory and process support must be verified beforehand.

How will your project work?

Plan the release of Laravel in all its parts.

Web and public directory

Point the web root to the public directory; Keep .env and project resources out of open directory. Compare web and CLI PHP versions.

Queue and scheduler

Separate scheduled task from continuous worker. After the release, check that there are no workers left running the old code and that the tasks are executed only once.

Migration and data

Plan for database backup and rollback impact before schema change. Ensure user uploads are preserved in the new release.

pre-release

Three checks, a clearer start.

Hosting and VDS management differences →
  • public root and PHP extensions are correct.
  • Worker and scheduler are working with new code.
  • Migration, permanent files and rollback are checked.

This section explains the tasks of the tools. The software, license, version and installation scope in your package are clarified during service selection.

What are the technical details?
  1. PHP version and plugins
  2. Document root must be public directory
  3. What does the queue and scheduler require?
  4. Add database changes to release plan
  5. Map Laravel components to hosting model
  6. File and database change together in release Laravel
  7. Subtract the total cost of hosting Laravel

PHP version and plugins

Check the PHP version and plugins your Laravel version requires along with the project's dependencies. Packages installed with Composer may impose additional requirements. The web PHP version appearing on the server may differ from the PHP version on the command line.

SSH and Composer access may not be available in every web hosting package. Although installing and installing dependencies externally is an option, it is necessary to test its compatibility with the target environment. If there is special service requirement Linux VDS offers more control.

Document root must be public directory

In the Laravel project, the document root accessed via the web must point to the public directory. Putting all project files in the public directory may expose .env and application resources. Check the document root setting of the domain name before choosing hosting.

In production, verify that debug screens are closed, file permissions, and application URL. Grant the necessary permissions to directories that need to be writable; Do not unnecessarily make the entire project accessible to anyone.

What does the queue and scheduler require?

Jobs such as notification, report generation and data transfer can be run through the queue. Process management is required for a continuously running queue worker; Shared hosting's long process policy may limit this. Learn the range and limits of cron support for scheduled tasks.

You can manage workers as services on VDS and restart them in a controlled manner during application publication. If Redis or another queuing infrastructure is used, also plan for its memory, access security, and persistence settings.

Add database changes to release plan

Installing new version files alone is not enough. Migration operations, refreshing caches, and having queue workers use the new code must be handled together. Consider fallback options before performing operations that change the database.

Working with small and scheduled tasks, the project can start on a suitable PHP hosting. In projects requiring permanent workers, special services or independent configuration VDS packages Check it out. Leave room for growth on disk for user uploads and logs.

Map Laravel components to hosting model

componentControl in PHP hostingplan on VDS/platform
web applicationPHP, extensions and public document rootWeb service and deployment layout
schedulerCron interval and run limitsResponsible for scheduled task
Queue workerCompliance with continuous process policyProcess management and worker resources
Redis/ReverbSpecial service supportSeparate process, connection and memory
User filesPersistent file space and backupProtected storage between releases

Working only in PHP may not be enough for a project. Add worker, scheduled task, and file retention behavior to the requirements list. Taking advantage of a feature in this list does not mean that that feature is already installed in the package you choose.

File and database change together in release Laravel

Before deployment, evaluate the compatibility of migration steps with existing data. Determine what the new database schema will be when you revert to the old application version. User installations and production environment settings should not be accidentally deleted with version files.

Check session, form, email, task and queue workers after publication. It is also planned for long-running processes to use the new code. Official distribution document of Laravel gives you the appropriate checkpoints for your version.

Subtract the total cost of hosting Laravel

Add database, persistent file space, queue service, and maintenance jobs to the base server. When comparing a pay-per-use platform with a fixed resource package, consider how active the application remains during the day and the number of workers. Don't just consider the entry plan fee as the total implementation cost.

In a simple application compatible PHP hosting assessable. When special services or continuous processes are required Linux VDS Provides greater configuration control. Make the decision based on the needs of the application and the maintenance capacity of the team.

Consider global options

The scope of management, resources and additional services may vary. Check out the differences that are important for your own project in the table below.

Curiosities

Frequently asked questions

Is VDS mandatory for Laravel?

No. Web hosting can be used if the PHP version, plugins, document root and task support are suitable. Permanent workers or special services increase the need for VDS.

Can I load Laravel files into public_html?

It should be ensured that only the public directory is accessible via the web. Putting the entire project root in an open directory is not a safe publishing method.

Laravel What should I specify for Horizon or Reverb?

Share the long-running service requirement, number of connections/workers, and the version of Laravel/PHP you are using. Don't assume that standard PHP hosting has process support.

Is Laravel Cloud entry fee and VDS price equivalent?

Service models are different. Calculate resource usage, database, worker, storage and maintenance jobs together for the same application.
