Manage Windows environment via RDP; Verify beforehand whether the installation image is Desktop Experience or Server Core.
Based on the application manufacturer's Windows Server, database and memory requirements. Logging into the server does not guarantee application compatibility.
In scenarios where more than one person will use an application or desktop, plan RDS role, user/device licenses, and capacity separately.
Once your server address, connection port, and authorized account are ready, follow the steps appropriate to your client.
Search for Remote Desktop Connection in the Start menu or run mstsc with Win + R.
Use the IP or server name in the delivery information. If a different port is given, write the address in IP:port format.
Select the given user account for the server. Use the server account password instead of the PIN on your computer.
Confirm the destination on the unexpected certificate warning. Once logged in, check that you are on the correct server and that your application is running.
Get Microsoft's Windows App from the Mac App Store. Use remote computer / PC attach stream as the connection type.
In the Add PC section, enter the server name or IP:port value in the delivery information in the PC name field.
Use the authorized user for the server. Logging in to the application with a personal Microsoft account does not create authority on the server.
Verify the destination and certificate. Configure display, keyboard and local resource redirection for your needs.
Check if the server is up, the IP/port is correct, and if necessary, a VPN is connected. Review the network rules that allow the RDP service and your source IP via the administration panel/console. Instead of turning off the firewall completely, correct the relevant rule.
Separate the server account from the client computer account. Check the user format, keyboard language, account lock and remote login authority. Do not type the password in the support message or on this site.
Check the client's currentness, time/date information, and account policy on the server. Don't make permanently shutting down NLA the default solution; Examine the reason on the console.
Compare the expected server name and certificate information with the delivery information. If there is a reinstallation or certificate change, obtain confirmation from the provider; Do not continue at a destination you do not recognize.
The installation can be Server Core. Core does not include the traditional desktop; If a graphical desktop is required, consider installing Desktop Experience along with application compatibility. Plan a data backup before reinstallation.
Administrator access and use of RDS: Connecting to manage the server and serving desktops/applications to multiple users are different scenarios. Separately clarify Windows Server, RDS and application licenses according to your usage.
Sources: Microsoft RDP documentation · Windows App · RDS license scope. Control: .
Consider your Windows project separately from Linux panel options.
Match the Windows Server version, .NET, and database requirements that the application supports.
Separate server management from multi-user remote desktop scenario. Determine the scope of access and license together.
Plan update time, application backup, and rollback testing. Clarify management responsibility.
Windows and application licenses are evaluated separately based on the selected version and usage scenario.
Consider choosing Linux and Windows →Windows VDS is considered if your software runs only on Windows or is dependent on specific Windows components. Check the Windows Server version supported by the application and the manufacturer's license terms for the server environment.
Not every .NET application requires Windows; Some modern .NET applications can also run on Linux. The situation is different for components that depend on the legacy .NET Framework, custom driver, or Windows. Project dependencies should determine the decision.
RDP allows you to remotely manage the server desktop. Administrative access and multi-user desktop service are not the same license scope. Additional licensing requirements such as the need for concurrent users and RDS should be clarified prior to sale.
Instead of leaving the management port open to the entire internet, consider allowed IP addresses, VPN, or a suitable access gateway. Use strong and unique passwords; Monitor access logs.
Windows updates, application services, and security tools consume resources. Don't assume that the entire amount of packaged RAM will be available to your application. If the database will run on the same server, calculate the total memory requirement together.
Leave free space on the disk for update files, temporary files and logs. Just because a small server can only run the application doesn't mean it will be adequate for production load. Monitor memory and disk usage under test load.
The Windows version to be installed, whether the license is included, additional user licenses, backup and management scope must be determined in writing. The following VDS resource packages are for infrastructure comparison; Verify separately the Windows license and implementation costs.
How to protect data and access the recovery console when reinstallation is necessary is also part of the plan. If you don't need Windows Linux VDS You can compare alternatives.
| Title | Information to be determined | Effect on price |
|---|---|---|
| Windows version | Server version supported by the application | Image and license scope |
| Application | Manufacturer requirement and mode of operation | CPU, RAM and storage needs |
| Access scenario | Administrator access or user logins | Technical access and license scope |
| additional software | Database and business applications | Separate license and maintenance items |
Being able to connect via RDP does not mean that all uses are covered by the same license. In addition to the server resource fee, specify your planned application and access scenario and see the relevant licenses in the total offer.
Give administrative access only to those who need it and plan access restrictions based on what the service offers. The reboot requirement for Windows updates should be considered in conjunction with the application's operating hours. Before installation, find out the recovery path that can be used outside normal access.
Test how the service will stand up when the application closes or the server restarts. Specify backup scope for user files, application settings, and database; simply opening the remote desktop screen does not indicate that the work application is running.
The decision should be based on your application's dependencies. The manufacturer's requirements for Windows-specific software are decisive; In a platform-independent web application, the maintenance competence of the team and the total license cost come into play. The lower server cost does not benefit the application running on the wrong operating system.
Linux VDS with public VDS resources When comparing, use the same application and support coverage. Testing the application in the target version before porting will reveal compatibility issues sooner.
The scope of management, resources and additional services may vary. Check out the differences that are important for your own project in the table below.
| Provider / service | Management model | Cost and scope | Selection criteria |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hızlı Hosting | VDS resources evaluated for Windows requirements. | Equivalent to 349.00 TL – 799.00 TL / month; annual payment. Tax/renewal and additional services are confirmed. Windows license is not assumed to be included. | Windows version, license, user scenario and total price. |
| Amazon Lightsail | Windows virtual server and RDP access. | Memory, vCPU, SSD and transfer are listed as a package. | Check the region, Windows package and additional consumption together. |
| OVHcloud Windows VPS | VPS with Windows Server option. | There are different data center and backup options. | Verify the Windows license, backup and administration total from the quote. |
Source control: . You can scroll the table horizontally on narrow screens. This table is not a speed or uptime test; Price, location, tax and campaign conditions should be compared separately on the day of order. It does not imply a partnership or endorsement.
License inclusion should not be assumed. The offered version and license fee must be verified separately before ordering.
Technical connection limits and license rights are evaluated together. Do not confuse administrative access with a multi-user desktop service.
The operating system and application must meet manufacturer requirements. It cannot be assumed that every package in the resource table is suitable for every Windows workload.
The operating system and application license scope may differ even if their resources are the same. The total offer should be compared with the same workload, backup and management conditions.
No, an operating system license is not the same as a third-party application or database license. Verify the coverage of the products you use separately.
Prepare your current usage and expectations with these four headings. This way, you can evaluate package resources and service scope together.
