What Is an Inode? Check Your Hosting File Limit
If you cannot create new files while your disk space appears empty in the hosting account, also check the limit on the number of files. Before you start reducing inode usage, determine which application the files belong to.
Difference between inode and disk quota in GB
The inode or File Usage indicator on hosting panels helps monitor the number of files and directories; Disk quota shows the space used. A large number of small files may approach the file count limit while using less GB. Therefore, you cannot say that the package is sufficient just by looking at the storage size.
For example, the impact on capacity of thousands of small cache files and a single large backup archive is different. Consider separately how much space and number of files will be freed by deleting a file. Do not count each row in the database as a separate hosting file.
Where to see usage via cPanel?
In the statistics on the cPanel main screen if the provider has enabled it File Usage and Disk Usage Compare areas. The file count indicator may not appear on all accounts. If the limit and current usage are not visible, ask the support team for both values. Do not guess the account defined limit from another company's package table.
