cPanel Backup and Restore Guide
A good backup is one that you can restore from when needed. You need to know from the beginning which tracks you have saved in cPanel and who can restore them.
Full account backups vs partial backups
A full account backup brings together different components of the account. In partial backups, you download parts such as the home directory or database separately. Menus may vary depending on the panel version and the features enabled by the provider.
Do not assume that the full backup can be restored in its entirety from the cPanel user interface; server administrator may be required. Also learn how to use the corresponding partial backup if you want to quickly return to a single database.
Check before taking a backup
Make sure you have enough free space in your account to create a backup. For very large accounts, compression and archiving can be resource-consuming. Consider the consistency of file and database copies in the store or constantly updated application.
Note the date of the backup, the domain it covers, and the database. If the files uploaded by the application are in a separate storage service, these contents may not be available in the hosting backup.
Store the backup outside of the account
Download the archive and store it in a restricted location. Verify the size of the file and that it can be opened; Just starting the download process is not enough. Do not share backups with a public link as they may contain passwords and personal data.
Create a storage plan instead of accumulating old backups indefinitely. The backup left in the public_html directory of the same account consumes disk and may become downloadable from the internet in case of incorrect configuration.
Try the restore in a separate environment
Try restoring files and databases in the test account before overwriting the live data. Match the application settings to the target database; prevent the test copy from sending actual emails or payments.
